Creative Discovery in PaintShop Pro
Lesson 14

The supplies for this lesson have all been used in a previous lesson.
The Wood Pattern used in lesson 9 (ads_texture_wood_boards_15)
The Frog used in lesson 10 (7_10 Frog5_J.psp)
The Monkey used in lesson 9


First - Wait for the Video player to load
Then - You need to watch the video before doing lesson below - it has a lot more important information and explanations for you
You may do the lesson as you watch the video though
Also - Click the full screen button on the player to watch it full screen or you may not see all of the settings properly



1. WOOD BACKGROUND

    Open a New Image
  • 900 x 100
  • Raster Background
  • Transparent
Click OK

Go to the Materials Palette and locate a pattern - ads_texture_wood_boards_15.
We used this in Lesson 9.
Set the Angle to 45 and the Scale to 50
Click OK
Flood Fill your image with this wood pattern

Activate the Paint Brush tool - Click B on your keyboard will also do this


    Use these settings:-
  • Shape - Square
  • Size - 20
  • Hardness - 100
  • Step - 32
  • Density - 100
  • Thickness - 100
  • Rotation - 0
  • Opacity - 100
  • Blend Mode - Normal
  • Leave all others - UNTICKED
Load the colour #008000 into your foreground box of the Material Palette - (It is a bright green)
Draw a stripe at the left side of your image from top to bottom
Change the Blend Mode to Darken and repeat the stripe next to the first one
Change the Blend Mode to Lighten and repeat the stripe.
Now Repeat this with the following Blend Modes until you have lots of stripes across your image
  • Hue
  • Hue (Legacy)
  • Saturation
  • Colour
  • Colour (Legacy)
  • Luminance
  • Luminance(Legacy)
  • Multiply
  • Screen
  • Dissolve
  • Repeat Dissolve at Opacity 50
  • Put Opacity back to 100 and do Overlay
  • Hardlight
  • Softlight
  • Difference
  • Dodge
  • Burn
  • Exclusion


Save as:- YourName - Lesson14a

2. PAINT BEHIND

    Open a New Image
  • 400 x 400
  • Raster Background
  • Transparent
Click OK
Flood fill with white

Locate the frog image we used in lesson 10. It was called 7_10 Frog5_J.psp
Copy and Paste him as a New Layer
Right click on the Foreground box and Load the fluoro green into this box
Now load the fluoro pink into the Background box

    Change these settings of the Paint Brush
  • Size - 200 - 250
  • Hardness - 50
  • Blend Mode - Paint Behind
Now holding down the RIGHT mouse button paint a small section behind the frog - don't fill the image, but get all the sections behind him.
This will be the pink colour

Change to the LEFT mouse button and paint the rest of the image.
This will be the green colour.



Now Take a screenshot of your Layer palette and crop it, as this is what you will send in



Save as:- YourName - Lesson14b

3. MONKEY

Open the Monkey Image that we used in Lesson 4
Duplicate and close the original
Resize this by 25% and Sharpen
Then do 3 duplicates = 4 images in all - line them up beside each other if you have the room

Now using each of the first 4 blend modes paint across the image with the Green paint - try it also with the pink as you will get a different result
Undo when you have done the 4 and try with different Blend Modes until you have done them all.
Save your favourite 3 to hand in for the lesson, but place Text over them telling me which Blend mode and colour you used.
