Lesson 24


You will need this Orange Rose Image from Pixabay

You will also need this Image of a group of Young Adults from Unsplash

Lastly you will also need this Image of a little Yellow Car, also from Unsplash

First - Wait for the Video player to load
Then - You need to watch the video before doing lesson below - it has a lot more important information and explanations for you
You may do the lesson as you watch the video though
Also - Click the full screen button on the player to watch it full screen or you may not see all of the settings properly



1. ROSE IMAGE BACKGROUND BLUR

Open your images in PaintShop Pro and Duplicate them and close the originals
Minimize the images except the Rose
Resize the Rose by 40% & Sharpen
Activate the magic Wand tool

Use the following settings
  • Mode - Replace
  • Match Mode - RGB Value
  • Tolerance - 53
  • Contiguous - TICKED
  • Feather - 0
  • Anti-Alias - TICKED
  • Outside Selected
Click on the flower - This first click will not get all of the flower
Your Selections will be different to mine - this is determined by where you click on the rose

Hold the Shift key down and select more areas that are not already selected - Orange parts only
Watch for areas that you do not want to select and if it happens - UNDO
Once you have selected all orange parts and there still are more


Go to Selections > Modify > Remove Specks and Holes
Remove Specks and Holes Selected & 100 Selected in the box
Click OK
You should now have all of the Rose selected and nothing else

Invert the Selection, so the green areas are now selected
If you find some orange areas did not invert correctly, activate the magic wand and while holding down the Ctrl key
Click on the orange that should be selected and are not.
Remember your selections could be different to mine


Now Click on your Gaussian Blur icon OR go to Adjust > Blur > Gaussian Blur
Set the Radius to 5 and Click OK
Deselect
Resize to 400 x 600 (change % to Pixels)


Save this as YourName-Lesson24a

2. GROUP OF YOUNG ADULTS - AVERAGE BLUR

Bring up the group of people image
Resize by 10 % & Sharpen
Activate the Freehand Selection Tool (Lasso)
Use the following settings:-
  • Selection Type - Freehand
  • Mode - Replace
  • Feather - 15
  • Smoothing -30
  • Anti-Alias - TICKED
Draw an oval around one of the two girls at the front


Go to Adjust > Blur > Average
Set the Filter Aperture to 31
Edit > Repeat Blur Average
Deselect
Crop the image to include the blurred girl


Save this as YourName-Lesson24b

3. CAR - MOTION BLUR

Bring up the little yellow car image
Resize by 15 % & Sharpen
Right click on Background Layer & Promote Background Layer - Now Raster 1
Duplicate the layer
Go to Adjust > Blur > Motion Blur

  • Angle - 85
  • Strength - 100
Click OK
Now move the top blurred layer to the bottom

Activate the top layer
Activate the Freehand Selection Tool (Lasso) OR Point to Point
Use the following settings:-

  • Selection Type - Freehand
  • Mode - Replace
  • Feather - 0
  • Smoothing -30 (I used 11 with Point to Point)
  • Anti-Alias - TICKED
Draw around the car as neatly as you can
Use the Shift (ADD) & Ctrl (Remove) to add and remove sections


Invert the Selection
Hit the Delete Key on the keyboard
Merge


Save this as YourName-Lesson24c
