Creative Discovery in PaintShop Pro
Lesson 28


I have used PassionsConflict Font for this lesson - You may use another one, but if you like this font, go here to pick it up Level 2 Downloads Page

First - Wait for the Video player to load
Then - You need to watch the video before doing lesson below - it has a lot more important information and explanations for you
You may do the lesson as you watch the video though
Also - Click the full screen button on the player to watch it full screen or you may not see all of the settings properly



1. RED AND BLUE FUN TEXT WITH ARROWHEADS

Open a New Transparent Image - 500 x 200
Activate the Text Tool
Go to the More Options box


Click on the Line Style Options - there is a very faint triangle to the right
Locate and click on Opposing Arrowheads - Equal


    Text Settings are
  • Font = Arial Black
  • Size = 100 Pixels
  • Alignment = Centre
  • Direction = Horizontal & Down
  • Anti-Alias = Smooth
  • Stroke Width = 1
  • Create as = Floating
Right click in the Foreground Box of the Materials Palette and Pick the RED
Right click in the Background Box of the Materials Palette and Pick the Dark Blue


Click in the Centre of your Transparent Image, and 2/3's of the way towards the bottom
Type your name or another if it is extra long.


Highlight the 2nd letter of your name by just dragging your mouse over it
Then click on the curved arrow between the Foreground and Background boxes of the Materials Palette
Repeat the highlight and swap colours for the 4th & 6th letter of your name - You will need to click on the swap arrows twice for each of these though


Now Highlight the First letter of your name
Create a gradient of Foreground-Background and place it as the Fill for this letter
You can Choose whether you want RED or BLUE of the stars, which is the Stroke colour
Keep the first letter selected and change the Size to 150


Now Click Apply changes
Add an Inner Bevel & a Drop Shadow of your choice
Merge all Layers & Deselect


Save this as YourName-Lesson28a

2. KERNING AND LEADING

Open a New Transparent Image - 500 x 500
Keep the Text Tool activated
Put the Line Style Back to Solid - (Go to the More Options Box at the end)
    Text Settings are
  • Font = Your Choice (I used PassionsConflict)
  • Size = 72 Pixels
  • Alignment = Centre
  • Direction = Horizontal & Down
  • Anti-Alias = Smooth
  • Stroke Width = 0
  • Create as = Floating
Click on the box to the far right on the Foreground box of the Materials Palette - This is the transparent button,
so you will have nothing in the Foreground box
Right click in the Background Box of the Materials Palette - Pick your choice, but make it a darker colour

Type your name in the Box and Shift it to the top with the move tool
Reactivate the Text Tool
Go to the Kerning and change it to 200

Retype your name in the box and Shift it to just underneath the first one
Change the Kerning to Negative 75
Retype your name in the box and Shift it to just underneath the second one

Reactivate the Text Tool
Change the Kerning back to 0
Type in the box - "PaintShop Pro" on one line and "is Fun" on the second line - use the enter key to get to the second line
Move it if it is not positioned correctly

Deselect
Add a Drop Shadow of your choice - not too dark and watch it is not chopped off at the edge of the image
Merge all (Flatten)


Save this as YourName-Lesson28b

3. MORE LEADING

Open a New Transparent Image - 500 x 500
Keep the Text tool activated
Change the Leading to 0.6
Type in the box - "PaintShop Pro" on one line and "is Fun" on the second line
Shift this to the bottom

Reactivate the Text Tool
Change the Leading to -0.6
Retype the 2 lines of text at the top of the transparent box - reposition it if needed
Deselect
Add the same drop shadow you did in the last one
Merge all (Flatten)


Save this as YourName-Lesson28c

4. LAYER PROPERTIES

Open a image 300 x 300 - make it Yellow from the Recent colours box
Activate the Picture tube tool - choose any tube, but choose one with some colour
Make sure Create as new raster layer is ticked up on the tool bar
Click Once in your box - Make sure your size is Ok for your image to fit and adjust the scale if necessary

Now Right click on this layer and click on Properties - at the top
Give it a Name - the name of the Tube you used
Change the Blend Mode - your choice
Change the Opacity - to any odd number
Lower the zoom to 65, so you can fit the images into the preview boxes

Now take a screenshot - Press the Print Screen key on your keyboard
You will have to click OK to close this window
Right Click on your workspace and Paste as New Image
Crop this image so that I can see the 2 previews at the top and also the 3 changes that you made to the Layer Properties


Save this as YourName-Lesson28d
