Creative Discovery in PaintShop Pro
Lesson 29


I have used a couple of supplies from previous lessons - The Ballerina image and also the Gold Mosaic Pattern

Also go to Pixabay and pick up these 3 images 1. Butterfly - Pixabay

2. Sunset - Pixabay

3. Girl at the Beach - Pixabay

There are also some masks zipped up here Lesson 29 Zip File

First - Wait for the Video player to load
Then - You need to watch the video before doing lesson below - it has a lot more important information and explanations for you
You may do the lesson as you watch the video though
Also - Click the full screen button on the player to watch it full screen or you may not see all of the settings properly



1. PREPARE

Open all of the Images:-

~ Ballerina
~ Butterfly
~ Sunset
~ Lady at the Beach

Duplicate and close the originals
Resize the Ballerina by 25% and Sharpen
Resize the Rest of them by 30% and Sharpen - Minimize them
Duplicate the Lady on the Beach - we are using this one twice

Open all of the masks:-
~ adsmaskframe11.jpg
~ adsmaskframe8.jpg
~ adsmaskpic11.jpg
~ adsmaskpicframe8.jpg
~ esp_square_floral_mask.jpg
Duplicate and close the originals


2. BALLERINA

Working with the Ballerina image and the adsmaskframe11
Add a New Raster Layer
Then Flood Fill this Layer with White (This will be the colour of the mask)
Go to Layers > New mask Layer > From Image (I also added an Icon to my toolbar - Mask from Image)

The Source Window opens - Open the Drop Down menu and Choose the same image number as the Mask we are going to add to the ballerina.
Click Source Luminance & DO NOT invert this mask
Click OK


Merge Layer Group - Icon in your tool bar OR Layers > Merge > Merge Group

    Apply Drop Shadow
  • Vertical - 5
  • Horizontal - 5
  • Opacity - 65
  • Blur - 10
  • Colour - Black
  • Shadow on New Layer - Unticked
Click OK

Repeat the Drop Shadow, changing the Vertical and Horizontal to Negative 5


Save this as YourName-Lesson29a

3. BUTTERFLY

Bring up the Butterfly image and also the esp_square_floral_mask.jpg
Add a New Raster Layer
Then Flood Fill this Layer with an orange - Use your dropper to choose this from the centre of the flower.
Go to Mask from Image and Select the mask we are going to use from the drop down menu in the Source Window
Click Source Luminance & Invert mask data TICKED
Click OK


Merge Layer Group - Icon in your tool bar OR Layers > Merge > Merge Group



    Apply Inner Bevel
  • Bevel = #7
  • Width = 9
  • Smoothness = 20
  • Depth = 10
  • Ambience = 0
  • Shininess = 23
  • Colour = White
  • Angle = 315
  • Intensity = 50
  • Elevation = 30
Click OK

Apply the two Drop Shadows that we used on the Ballerina's mask.
Merge all (Flatten)


Save this as YourName-Lesson29B

4. SUNSET

Bring up the Sunset image and also the adsmaskframe8.jpg
Add a New Raster Layer
Load the Gold Mosaic Pattern into your Materials Palette
~ Angel = 45
~ Scale = 50

Then Flood Fill this Layer with the Gold
Go to Mask from Image and Select the mask we are going to use
Click Source Luminance & Invert mask data UNTICKED
Click OK
Merge Layer Group - Icon in your tool bar OR Layers > Merge > Merge Group
    Apply Inner Bevel
  • Bevel = #2
  • Width = 5
  • Smoothness = 20
  • Depth = 5
  • Ambience = 0
  • Shininess = 23
  • Colour = White
  • Angle = 315
  • Intensity = 50
  • Elevation = 30
Click OK
Apply the Drop Shadow that we used earlier - only one of them this time.
Merge all (Flatten)


Save this as YourName-Lesson29c

5. LADY ON THE BEACH

Bring up one of the Lady on the Beach images and also the adsmaskpicframe8.jpg
First you need to crop this one so that it is longer on the Height - It needs to be roughly the same shape as the mask we are using
- so place the mask beside your image as you crop.


Add a New Raster Layer
Then Flood Fill this Layer with a dark blue - Use your dropper to choose this from the image.
Go to Mask from Image and Select the mask we are going to use
Click Source Luminance & Invert mask data UNTICKED
Click OK

Merge Layer Group - Icon in your tool bar OR Layers > Merge > Merge Group
Now Apply an inner bevel and Drop Shadow of your choice, but keep it simple
Merge all (Flatten)


Save this as YourName-Lesson29d

6. LADY ON THE BEACH #2

Bring up the other image of the Lady on the Beach and also the adsmaskpic11.jpg
Add a New Raster Layer
Then Flood Fill this Layer with the dark blue - same one we just used
Go to Mask from Image and Select the mask we are going to use
Click Source Luminance & Invert mask data UNTICKED
Click OK

Merge Layer Group - Icon in your tool bar OR Layers > Merge > Merge Group
Now you can present this one however you wish, but do not leave it as it is - here are some simple ideas

~ Inner Bevel & Drop Shadow
~ Buttonize
~ Add Borders
~ Add Frame
But you can go as fancy as you like


Merge all (Flatten)

Save this as YourName-Lesson29e
