Lesson 3

You will need these fonts for this lesson
Here is a zip file for you - Lesson 3 Zip File

Download, then unzip to a folder where you store your fonts

First - Wait for the Video player to load
Then - You need to watch the video before doing lesson below - it has a lot more important information and explanations for you
You may do the lesson as you watch the video though
Also - Click the full screen button on the player to watch it full screen or you may not see all of the settings properly

1. INSTALLING A FONT

Browse to where your fonts are kept on your computer.
Select the font you wish to install by double clicking to open it.
Click the install Button on the top left.

It is much better to have a Font Manager installed on your computer though, as too many installed fonts will slow down your computer and PSP.
The one I recommend is Font Base and there is a link to get this on the Links page

There is also a Video for using Font Base. This is below - so check it out first

2. ADDING TEXT

    Open a New Image

  • 500 x 100 Pixels
  • Raster Background
  • Colour - White
Click OK

Duplicate (Shift + D) this white image twice - you now have 3 white boxes and minimize 2 of them.

Find the Text Icon - Looks like capital T - Click on it.

You can also click on the T on your keyboard for a shortcut.

    Use the following settings:-
  • Font - Driftwood
  • Size - 72
  • Units - Pixels
  • Font Style - None
  • Text Options - None
  • Font Colour - Your choice (I chose a light grey) - this will be the fill colour
  • Alignment - Centre
  • Direction - Left to Right
  • Anti-Alias - Smooth
  • Stroke Width - 1
  • Stroke Colour - Your choice (I chose a mid blue) - this will be the outline colour
  • Create as - Floating

Hover somewhere over the White Image and you will see a Cross with a capital T.
Now Click and you will see a flashing vertical line. Type your text.

If you are not happy there is a cancel button to the left of the Font choice. Circled in RED in the image below
If you are happy further to the left is a Tick - Apply changes. Circled in GREEN in the image below
These are both in the Action area.

You will now see the running ants around your text and in the top bar of the image says (Floating Selection).

3. INNER BEVEL

Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel.
This opens a new window.

Use your own choice of Settings or use mine - mine are in the image below.

Click OK

4. DROP SHADOW

Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow.
This open a new window.

Use your own choice of Settings or use mine (pictured below), but DO NOT tick Shadow on new layer.

Make sure the drop Shadow is not chopped off - Can be caused by the text being too low or your Vertical Offset number is too big.
Either shift the text up or change the vertical offset to a smaller number.

Click OK

Deselect (Ctrl + D)
Save this as YourName-Lesson3a
