Creative Discovery in PaintShop Pro
Lesson 4

You will need this font for this lesson - it is Apex Shadow Caps
Here is a zip file for you if you don't already have this font - Lesson 4 Zip File

Download, then unzip to a folder where you store your fonts

You will also need the monkey image. Go to Unsplash to download it


First - Wait for the Video player to load
Then - You need to watch the video before doing lesson below - it has a lot more important information and explanations for you
You may do the lesson as you watch the video though
Also - Click the full screen button on the player to watch it full screen or you may not see all of the settings properly




1. PREPARE

    Open a new image
  • 500 x 500 Pixels
  • Raster Background
  • Colour - None = Transparent Ticked
Click OK

Flood Fill with White.

Browse for the Monkey Image and open in PaintShop Pro
Duplicate the image - Shift + D and either minimize or close the original.


2. RESIZE THE IMAGE

Go to Image > Resize
Resize by 30% with Lock Aspect Ratio Ticked



Click OK

    Click on the Selection Tool and use the following settings:-
  • Selection Type - Ellipse
  • Mode - Replace
  • Feather - 0
  • Anti-Alias - Ticked
  • Selection Type - Normal
Starting from just above the nose (where I have the RED dot), left click and drag out an oval shape.
Release the mouse button



Copy - Ctrl + C
Right Click on the top of the White image (on the Grey bar) and Paste as a New Selection
Place it towards the top of the white image and move it into place - slightly Left of centre.

3. INNER BEVEL

    Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel.
  • Bevel - #4
  • Width - 5
  • Smoothness - 7
  • Depth - 1
  • Ambience - 80
  • Shininess - 50
  • Colour - White
  • Angle - 315
  • Intensity - 40
  • Elevation - 20
Click OK


4. DROP SHADOW

    Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow.
  • Vertical - 10
  • Horizontal - 10
  • Opacity - 45
  • Blur - 15
  • Shadow on new layer - Unticked
Make sure the drop Shadow is not chopped off.
If it is, then shift the selection over more to the left or maybe you have selected too large a size.

Click OK

Deselect (Ctrl + D)



5. CHOOSING COLOURS USING HTML COLOUR CODES

Click on the Foreground box to open the Material Properties box
Type into the HTML box - #876647
This will give you a mid brown colour
Click OK



Click on the Background box to open the Material Properties box again
Type into the HTML box - #2e3b29
This will give you a dark green
Click OK


6. ADD TEXT

Click on your Text Tool.

    Use the following settings:-
  • Font - Apex Shadow Caps
  • Size - 128
  • Units - Pixels
  • Font Style - None
  • Text Options - None
  • Font Colour - #2e3b29 - Green
  • Alignment - Centre
  • Direction - Left to Right
  • Anti-Alias - Smooth
  • Stroke Width - 2
  • Stroke Colour - #876647 - brown
  • Create as - Floating
Type your Any text into the image - I used all capitals.

    Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel.

  • Bevel - #3
  • Width - 8
  • Smoothness - 30
  • Depth - 40
  • Ambience - 75
  • Shininess - 30
  • Colour - White
  • Angle - 1
  • Intensity - 30
  • Elevation - 60
Click OK

Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Use the same Drop Shadow as before

Click OK

Shift your text to where you would like it, but towards the bottom

Deselect (Ctrl + D)




7. BUTTONIZE

    Effects > 3D > Buttonize
  • Height - 10
  • Width - 10
  • Opacity - 84
  • Edge - Transparent
  • Colour - Background Box Colour
Click OK



Save this as YourName-Lesson4
