1. TEXT ON TOP - OUTSIDE OF THE CIRCLE
Open a New Transparent Image with a Raster Background - 450 x 450
Place Red from the Recent Materials box into the Foreground Box and nothing in the Background Box.
Click on the Preset Shape tool. Locate Ellipse in the Drop down Window on the Tool Bar.
~ Anti-alias = Ticked
~ Create as Vector = TICKED
~ Line Style = Solid
~ Width = 2
Right click on the top of the image and turn the Rulers on - Zoom in to see the rulers better
Starting at 100 x 100, draw out a Red circle to 400 x 400 - this can be very approximate.
Click on your Centre in Canvas icon OR Objects > Align > Centre in Canvas
Right click on the top of the image and turn the rulers off.
Duplicate the image and minimize one.
Load #2c5080 into your Background box - a blue.
Activate the Text Tool & use the following settings:
- Font = Lucinda Sans Unicode
- Size = 72 Pixels
- Font Style = None
- Font Colour = Any
- Alignment = Centre
- Direction = Horizontal & Down
- Anti-Alias = Sharp
- Stroke Width = 0
- Stroke Colour = RED
- Create as = Vector
- Leading = 0
- Kerning = 0
- Offset = 0
- Line Style = Solid
Hold the mouse over the curved line as close as possible to the centre top of the circle -
You will not be able to get it right in the centre though, as there is a node in the road.
You will see the Cross Hairs with the Capital T inside a curved line.
When you see this symbol, then click the mouse to get the Flashing line for the text - this will be above the red circle.
Type in the word Discovery. The word should be sitting on the red circle.
Click the Apply Changes tick - there will now be a bounding box surrounding the text.
The text will be positioned relative to where you clicked on the circle and also which alignment was selected.
See the images below - The green cross is where I clicked on the circle
Where you click on the circle is where the text will start from, and the alignment will adjust from that point.
Image 1 is Alignment = Left
Image 2 is Alignment = Centre
Image 3 is Alignment = Right
Now if your text is not quite in the centre (and it is almost impossible to click in the centre top because of the node in the way), then you can grab your text and move it.
Because we created this text as a vector, the text will automatically attach itself to the circle again after we shift it.
To shift it, grab the node in the centre of the bounding box (you will see the 4 arrows in different directions) and shift it to the right if you wish the text to move around the circle clockwise.
If you wish to shift it anti-clockwise then move it to the left.
Now position your text in the centre at the top of the circle.
Duplicate the image and minimize one of them.
Merge all layers.
Save as YourName-Lesson45a.jpg

2. CURVED TEXT WITH IMAGE
Now Bring up the image that you just minimized (Red ellipse + Blue curved text)
Go to the layer palette and click on the small white triangle beside Vector 1 - this will open 2 more layers.
Close the Ellipse (Red circle) layer by clicking on the eye.
Merge visible.
Now find a small image (preferably with a transparent background - or misted edge), place it in the space under the curved text.
Add a very simple Inner Bevel to the Text layer and also a drop shadow
Add the same drop shadow to the image
Merge all Layers
Crop the image

3. TEXT ON TOP - INSIDE THE CIRCLE
Bring up the image that you just minimized at the beginning of the lesson (Red ellipse).
Check that the blue is in the background box of the materials palette.
Click on the text tool and check the settings are still as we had them earlier.
Go to the extra settings for the text and find the Offset.
Set this at -53
Hover the mouse over the red circle and when the Crosshairs with Capital T inside the Curved line appears, then click the mouse.
When the Text Line flashes type DISCOVERY (capitals this time)
Shift your text so that it is in the centre at the top.
Right click inside the bounding box to bring up the Menu - Click on Edit Text.
The flashing line appears - now select all of the text and it will have a grey highlight over it.
Go to Kerning and change to 50 - the letters will have more space around them, but still attached to the red circle.
Click on the Apply Changes tick - the bounding box is back
Go to the layer palette and Right click on the layer that says DISCOVERY (the text layer) and click on Edit Text when the menu comes up.
Highlight the text you wish to change - all of it.
Change the Stroke width to 2 = Red outline on the blue text
Swap the colours in the materials Palette = Blue outline on the red text
Change the Red in the background box to White = Blue outline on white text
Click on the Apply Changes tick on the toolbar.
Duplicate this image and minimize one of them.
Merge all layers

Save as:- YourName-Lesson45c
4. CURVED TEXT WITH IMAGE
Now Bring up the image that you just minimized (Red ellipse + Blue outline on White curved text)
Go to the layer palette and Close the Ellipse (Red circle) layer by clicking on the eye.
Merge visible.
Now find a small image (preferably with a transparent background - or misted edge), place it in the space under the curved text.
Add a very simple Inner Bevel to the Text layer and also a drop shadow
Add the same drop shadow to the image
Merge all Layers
Crop the image
