Including content to Lesson 4

You may do the lesson as you watch the video though
Also - Click the full screen button on the player to watch it full screen or you may not see all of the settings properly




You will need this font for this lesson - it is Beachman Script
You will also need the Castle Image
Here is a zip file containing both supplies - Project 1 Zip File

Download, then unzip to a folder where you store your fonts and images


1. PREPARE

    Open a new image

  • 500 x 500 Pixels
  • Raster Background
  • Colour - None = Transparent Ticked
Click OK

Browse for the Castle Image and open in PaintShop Pro
Duplicate the image - Shift + D and either minimize or close the original

Go to Image > Resize
Resize by 50% with Lock Aspect Ratio Ticked
Click OK


2. PICK COLOURS & FIRST SELECTION

Select the Eyedropper Tool and pick a light blue colour from the sky just above the castle.


This goes into the Foreground box.
Flood Fill the Transparent image with that blue

    Click on the Selection Tool and use the following settings:-
  • Selection Type - Rounded Rectangle
  • Mode - Replace
  • Feather - 0
  • Anti-Alias - Ticked
  • Selection Type - Normal
Starting from just above and to the left of the castle(where the RED dot is), select all of the castle


Release the mouse button
Copy - Ctrl + C

Right Click on the top of the Blue image and Paste as a New Selection
Place it in the centre.


3. INNER BEVEL & DROP SHADOW

Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel.

    Click on the Default button (outlined in RED) and then change the following settings only.
  • Smoothness - 50
  • Depth - 5
Click OK

    Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow.
  • Vertical - 10
  • Horizontal - 10
  • Opacity - 45
  • Blur - 15
  • Colour - Black
  • Shadow on new layer - Unticked
Click OK
Deselect (Ctrl + D) BOTH images


4. STAR SELECTIONS

Click on the Selection Tool and CHANGE the following settings:-
* Star 2

Select a star in the sky in the top right of the image
Copy & Paste as a new Selection
Shift it to the top Left and overlap the Rounded Rectangle


    Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel.
  • Bevel - #6
  • Width - 15
  • Smoothness - 10
  • Depth - 2
  • Ambience - 0
  • Shininess - 0
  • Colour - White
  • Angle - 315
  • Intensity - 50
  • Elevation - 30
Click OK

Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow.
Apply the same Drop Shadow as before

Click OK

We are going to apply a 2nd drop shadow to this star

    Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow.
  • Vertical - Negative 10
  • Horizontal - Negative 10
  • Opacity - 15
  • Blur - 15
  • Colour - Grey - Right click and choose 3rd row and 2nd from the right (see image below) - Click OK
  • Shadow on new layer - Unticked

Click OK
Deselect (Ctrl + D) BOTH images

Click on the Selection Tool and CHANGE the following settings:-
* Star 1

Select a star in the green area in the bottom left of the image - stay in the Green area.
You will need to start fairly close to the left edge of the image

Copy & Paste as a new Selection
Shift it to the bottom right and overlap the Rounded Rectangle with just the tip of the star.


    Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel - make the following changes and leave the other settings as is.
  • Bevel - #11
  • Width - 15
  • Smoothness - 2
  • Depth - 5
Click OK
    Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow.
  • Vertical - 10
  • Horizontal - 10
  • Opacity - 45
  • Blur - 15
  • Colour - Black
  • Shadow on new layer - Unticked
Click OK
Deselect (Ctrl + D) BOTH images

You can now minimize the castle image as we are finished with it.




5. ADDING TEXT

Click on your Text Tool.

    Use the following settings:-
  • Font - Beachman Script
  • Size - 128
  • Units - Pixels
  • Font Style - None
  • Text Options - None
  • Font Colour - #c4d1d9 - Pale Blue
  • Alignment - Centre
  • Direction - Left to Right
  • Anti-Alias - Smooth
  • Stroke Width - 1
  • Stroke Colour - #1c241e - Dark Green
  • Create as - Floating
Type "Just" at the Top and position it to sit on top of the Rounded Rectangle to the right of the star.

Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel.
    Use the Default settings, but change the following:-
  • Width - 3
  • Depth - 5
Click OK

Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow
Use the same Drop Shadow as before

Click OK
Deselect (Ctrl + D)

Click on your Text Tool.
Use the same settings and click towards the bottom and type "Lovely"

Position it under the Rounded rectangle to the left of the green star - The top of the "L" is just touching the Rounded Rectangle.
Apply the same Inner Bevel and Drop Shadow and you did with the other word.




6. BUTTONIZE

    Effects > 3D > Buttonize
  • Height - 40
  • Width - 40
  • Opacity - 100
  • Edge - Transparent
  • Colour - #398689
Click OK

Save this as YourName-Project1a




    Now find an image and font for your own creation based on this tutorial.
  • Use any Selection shapes you like and as many as you wish.
  • Use any font colours you like, but choose ones that match your image.
  • Use any Inner Bevel and Drop Shadow - try not to cut off your drop shadows

Save this as YourName-Project1b
