Including content to Lesson 8

You may do the lesson as you watch the video though
Also - Click the full screen button on the player to watch it full screen or you may not see all of the settings properly




You will need this Kingfisher Image from Pixabay
You will also need this font - it is Waterlily. Here is a zip file the font - Project 2 Zip File

Download, then unzip to a folder where you store your fonts and images


1. PREPARE

Browse for the Kingfisher Image and open in PaintShop Pro
Duplicate the image - Shift + D and either minimize or close the original.

Activate Waterlily Font in Font Base or your Font Manager - then minimize Font Base

    Open a new image
  • 500 x 500 Pixels
  • Raster Background
  • Colour - None = Transparent Ticked
Click OK


2. PICK COLOURS & BLINDS

Select the Eyedropper Tool and pick a light green colour from just above the bird.
This goes into the Foreground box.
Flood Fill the Transparent image with that green

    Go to Effects > Texture Effects > Blinds
  • Width - 5
  • Opacity - 15
  • Colour - Black
  • Horizontal - Ticked
  • Light from Left/Top - Ticked
Click OK

Rename the Layer Blinds

3. SELECTION

    Activate the Freehand Selection Tool
  • Selection Type - Freehand
  • Mode - Replace
  • Feather - 50
  • Smoothing - 10
  • Anti-Alias Ticked
Roughly draw around the Kingfisher - fairly close

Copy and Paste as a NEW LAYER
Image > Resize

Resize by 50% - Resize all Layers UNTICKED
Click OK

Adjust > Sharpness > Sharpen
Rename Raster 1 Mosaic

Layers > Duplicate
Rename "Copy of Mosaic" Layer to Bird


4. MOSAIC EFFECT

Close Bird layer and Activate Mosaic Layer

    Go to Effects > Texture Effects > Mosaic- Antique
  • Number of Colums - 50
  • Number of Row - 50
  • Symmetric - Ticked
  • Tile Diffusion - 50
  • Grout Width - 1
  • Grout Diffusion - 50
Click OK

Lower the Opacity at the top of the Layer palette to 30

Grab your move tool and move the mosaic layer to the top centre
Open the Bird Layer and Select it



5. CROPPING

Bring up the duplicate of the original Kingfisher Image
Select the Crop Tool
Select the area with the Tree trunk down to the next branch to the right - also the first of the branches hanging down with the leaves.
Don't have any of the bird in the crop.



Crop as a New Image

Minimize the Kingfisher image again.

Copy the image that we cropped out and paste as a NEW Layer onto our project.
(Click on the MOVE Tool to close the Crop tool)

Image > Resize
Resize by 50% - Resize all Layers UNTICKED
Click OK

Move it up to the top Left corner - right to the edge and over to the left so the tree trunk goes across the corner,
but not chopped off at the bottom



Select the Freehand Selection Tool (same settings as before) and draw around the edge of the cropped image, but in a bit.


Release the mouse button and hit the DELETE key on your keyboard.
Deselect
Rename this layer - Tree



6. ADD TEXT

Activate the Text tool

    Use the following settings:-
  • Font - Waterlily
  • Size - 150
  • Units - Pixels
  • Font Style - Bold
  • Text Options - None
  • Font Colour - #ffe7c4 - Cream - from the light area of the branch he is sitting on (Background box)
  • Alignment - Centre
  • Direction - Left to Right
  • Anti-Alias - Smooth
  • Stroke Width - 2
  • Stroke Colour - #17465b - Dark Teal - from the bird's feathers in the Wing (Foreground box)
  • Create as - Floating
Add a NEW Raster Layer and Name it TEXT

Click towards the Bottom and Type your Text & Click Apply

    Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Inner Bevel - make the following changes and leave the other settings as is.
  • Bevel - #2
  • Width - 10
  • Smoothness - 30
  • Depth - 3
  • Ambience - 10
  • Shininess - 0
  • Colour - White
  • Angle - 304
  • Intensity - 40
  • Elevation - 35
  • Click OK

    Go to Effects > 3D Effects > Drop Shadow.
  • Vertical - 10
  • Horizontal - 10
  • Opacity - 45
  • Blur - 8
  • Colour -Black
  • Shadow on new layer - Unticked
Click OK
Deselect (Ctrl + D)



Move your images where you would like them while you still have layers
Layers > Merge > Merge All (Flatten)

7. BUTTONIZE

    Effects > 3D > Buttonize
  • Height - 5
  • Width - 5
  • Opacity - 100
  • Edge - Transparent
  • Colour - Cream from the Background box
Click OK



Save this as YourName-Project2a

    Now find an image and font for your own creation based on this tutorial.
  • Use any Image you like & Background Effect
  • Choose a Font you prefer
  • Use any colours you like, but choose ones that match from your image.
  • Use any Inner Bevel and Drop Shadow - try not to cut off your drop shadows
Save this as YourName-Project2b
